Oftentimes, students leave the classroom, thinking that all of their questions have been answered. By the time they get home, they've discovered just the opposite. Instead of waiting until the next school day to ask the teacher a question, Edmodo offers a platform that allows student to interact with one another and the teacher in an online community setting. At first glance, one could mistake Edmodo for Facebook. This familiar look makes all users comfortable with the platform. Unlike Facebook, Edmodo is a private community, set up as an online collaboration site for educational purposes. Students do not need email addresses in order to sign up, and the teacher is able to moderate all conversations and interactions had with students.
Multiple groups can be created, allowing teachers to have access to all of the classes that they teach. Teachers are also able to send students assignments, quizzes and polls via this free, online community. Results are received instantly, and students are individually notified of their grade.
Teachers can also award students with virtual badges that give students a sense of accomplishment, which is needed in the world of education.
